Second CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE Award from AMG
Retirement of the PETRONAS Syntium Team
Dato’ David Wong, Team Principal of PETRONAS Syntium Team, announces the retirement of the team and its operations with effect from 31 December 2013. The 23-year partnership between Dato’ David Wong and PETRONAS in motor racing has culminated on a high note with a solid record of over 100 race victories, including six consecutive Super Taikyu titles, winner of the Tokachi 24 Hours, 24 Hours of Dubai class champion and a three-time 12-hour Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) winner.
PETRONAS Syntium SLS AMG GT3 #1 Takes 6th Consecutive Title
After spending much of the race behind the safety car, the weather cleared up in the last half hour and racing resumed with cars battling for positions. Car #28 eventually finished third behind the Mach GoGoGo Shaken GT-R #555 and pole-sitter GTNet Advan Nissan GT-R #81, while car #1 finished fifth. The result from today gave car #1 its sixth consecutive Super Taikyu title, winning just 2.5 points ahead of car #28.
Second row lockout for PETRONAS Syntium Team at Autopolis
Pushing every millisecond they could out of car #28, Kataoka and Lester will line up third on the grid tomorrow, after finishing second and fifth in their respective qualifying stints. The new tyre balance is something to be worked on in the meantime before the race though. Sister car #1 will line up next to car #28 in fourth.
2013 Super Taikyu Title Showdown at Autopolis
The Super Taikyu 2013 title may have already been sealed at the previous round in Suzuka, but six-time Super Taikyu champion PETRONAS Syntium Team will still be racing hard this weekend at the final round of the season at Autopolis. The 2013 Super Taikyu championship title will be decided between cars #1 and #28 this Sunday.
Hat Trick at Suzuka and a 6th Consecutive Super Taikyu Title
Nobuteru Taniguchi set the pace by winning Race 1 on Saturday with the PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1. The weekend got better with Tatsuya Kataoka winning Race 2 from P3 in sister car #28 and Fariqe Hairuman scored a pole-to-flag victory for Race 3 in the same car. To top it all off, the team secured its sixth Super Taikyu title in a row, with one more round to go.
Taniguchi Sets Pace At Suzuka
Nobuteru Taniguchi managed to put the PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 on the front row for Race 1 in P2, after qualifying two-tenths of a second quicker than Jono Lester in sister car #28. Determined to take this win, Taniguchi chased the Nissan ThreeBond Nissan Technical College Nissan GT-R #24 and took the chequered flag eventually.
Busy Qualifying Morning at Suzuka
PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 will start on the front row in P2 for Race 1. Qualifying just two-hundredths of a second behind Nobuteru Taniguchi, Jono Lester put sister car #28 on the second row in P3. For Race 2, both cars will be starting on the second row, with Tatsuya Kataoka qualifying in P3 with car #28 and Dominic Ang in P4 with car #1. The grid for Race 3 is based on the fastest combined qualifying times of Drivers A and B. The fastest lap times of Kataoka and Lester put them in pole position, their second of the season.
Ready for Suzuka Sprints
Back to Japan to hunt down the sixth consecutive Super Taikyu title, the team will be racing at Suzuka Circuit this weekend for the sixth round of the Series. With both PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 cars #1 and #28 holding the joint championship lead, the team will be going all out to ensure victory at the next two rounds.
On Track for 6th Super Taikyu Title
t was a wet weekend at Okayama and the fifth round of the Super Taikyu Series 2013 was held under rainy and slippery weather. After encountering multiple safety car periods and dangerous track conditions, the partnership of Tatsuya Kataoka and Fariqe Hariuman successfully took the PETRONAS Syntium Merdeces-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #28 from second place on the grid to the chequered flag; though having to put up with pressure from the ThreeBond Nissan Technical College Nissan GT-R #24.
Car Troubles Ruin MMER Quest
It was a huge disappointment for the Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) defending champions PETRONAS Syntium Team when both their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 cars #1 and #28 had to retire early from the 12-hour race.

The combined fastest lap times of Tatsuya Kataoka and Fariqe Hairuman put the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #28 on the front row in P2, qualifying behind the GTNet Advan Nissan GT-R #81. Sister car #1 driven by Nobuteru Taniguchi and Melvin Moh will start in P4.
Front Row for MMER 2013!
This is the first time that Jager, Ludwig and Wolf are driving at Sepang, but they managed to adapt quickly to the track and also the tropical temperatures of Malaysia and secure pole position.

Running parallel operations in two different countries, the PETRONAS Syntium Team will be competing in two races on the same weekend of 31 August to 1 September 2013. Taking on the fifth round of the Super Taikyu Series at Okayama International Circuit in Japan, the team will simultaneously race the 12-hour Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
Nail-biting Win at Fuji
The last hour of the seven-hour race at Fuji Speedway sent everyone’s hearts racing to their mouths, as the PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 had the GTNet Advan Nissan GT-R #81 breathing down its neck, closing in fast and erasing the lead increasingly.
P3 and An Unfortunate P8 for Qualifying at Fuji
The combined fastest lap times of Nobuteru Taniguchi and Dominic Ang put the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 on the second row , qualifying third behind the GT-Rs. Sister car #28 initially qualified in fourth with the combined times of Tatsuya Kataoka and Jono Lester, but a post-qualifying penalty dropped them to P8.
Taking on the 7-hour Challenge in Fuji
After experiencing a series of heart-stopping action at Motegi last month, the PETRONAS Syntium Team is eager to take on the seven-hour race at Fuji Speedway this weekend – the longest event on the Super Taikyu Series 2013 calendar.
Consistency leads to 1-2 finish at Motegi
The trio of Tatsuya Kataoka, Fariqe Hairuman and Jono Lester worked hard to dominate much of the race with the SLS AMG GT3 #28, but unfortunately lost the lead in the closing minutes, allowing sister car #1 of Nobuteru Taniguchi, Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh to cross the finish line first instead.
Second row at Twin Ring Motegi
Following a two-month break after a history-making success in Korea, the Super Taikyu Series 2013 resumed in Japan this weekend with its third round. Held on the 4.801km Twin Ring Motegi road course, the PETRONAS Syntium Team and its pair of of Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 cars #1 and #28 locked out the second row of the starting grid.

After almost two months of summer break, the team will resume its title chase at the third round of the 2013 Super Taikyu Series this weekend at Twin Ring Motegi.
Record-setting Double Victory at Inje Speedium Korea
It was a perfect day for the PETRONAS Syntium Team, winning both races of the first ever series to be held at the brand new Inje Speedium 3,880-kilometre circuit and scoring maximum points to take the top of the leaderboard.

Fariqe Hairuman led the 45-minute sprint race from pole to flag to secure the victory after 29 laps with the PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 car #28. Finishing a close second was sister car #1 driven by Melvin Moh, just 0.2 seconds behind.
Double pole at Inje Speedium
In the first ever race at the brand new Inje Speedium circuit in Korea, PETRONAS Syntium Team secured double pole position for both races with the SLS AMG GT3 #28.
First to Race at New Inje Speedium Track in Korea
PETRONAS Syntium Team will be one of the first teams to race at the new Inje Speedium track in Korea. This is the second time that the team is racing in Korea; the first time was in 2000 with the late Malaysian Hairol Azmi Buntat and multiple South African touring car champion Michael Briggs.

Snowfall was too heavy for any racing and in the interest of safety, the race organisers decided to cancel the race. There will be no replacement race; neither will there be any championship points awarded

Successfully defending their title, PETRONAS Syntium Team beat the heat and achieved the desired result of a 1-2 finish at the 13th Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race (MMER) 2012. Flagged off at noon this year, the reigning champion formula of the Merdeces-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 with Nobuteru Taniguchi, Masataka Yanagida and Dominic Ang had a smooth run and came home first with 319 laps at the stroke of midnight. Sister car #28 with Tatsuya Kataoka, Fariqe Hairuman and Melvin Moh experienced a bout of bad luck but recovered and followed up in second place with 317 laps. The first to win the MMER three times, PETRONAS Syntium Team’s last 1-2 finish was in 2009.
Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race 2012 - Qualifying Report
Qualifying for the 12-hour Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race 2012 at the Sepang International Circuit was executed in three driver sessions. The best lap time of each driver is then added up before the average lap time is used for packing the starting grid order. The PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 will be starting on the front row in P2, whilst sister car #28 will be in the second row in P3.

Challenging Weekend Ends Well for PETRONAS Syntium Team
It was a weekend of one unfortunate occurrence after another for both Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 cars #1 and #28 at the third round of the Super Taikyu 2012 Series, sending the PETRONAS Syntium Team into a bevy of contingencies. Undeterred, the team remained focused and calm throughout the series of challenges on the 3.704-kilometre Sportsland Sugo road racing course and pulled through with car #1 finishing overall first.

Qualifying for Round 3 of the 2012 Super Taikyu Series at the 3.737-kilometre Sportsland Sugo road racing course resulted in both PETRONAS Syntium Team cars on the front row again, but this time it was PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #28 which secured pole position for this race – their first pole for the season.
