PETRONAS SYNTIUM TEAM RESUMES TITLE CHASE IN JAPAN

PETRONAS Syntium Team leads the Super Taikyu 2013 overall championship with car #28
The team returns to Japan for the rest of the Super Taikyu season
Race format this Sunday is a five-hour endurance race at Twin Ring Motegi

Japan, 16 July 2013 – PETRONAS Syntium Team had a perfect weekend at the brand new Inje Speedium circuit at the previous round in May, winning both races of the first ever series held at the 3.880-kilometre circuit and scoring maximum points to take the top of the leaderboard. After almost two months of summer break, the team will resume its title chase at the third round of the 2013 Super Taikyu Series this weekend at Twin Ring Motegi.

The race this Sunday will be of a five-hour endurance format, as the usual drivers are back at the wheel – Nobuteru Taniguchi, Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 and Tatsuya Kataoka, Fariqe Hairuman and Jono Lester for sister car #28.

Dato’ David Wong, team principal of PETRONAS Syntium Team, said, "It’s been a while since our last race but the team is still riding high on the momentum from the last round at Korea, where we had fantastic achievements and won both races. Those were sprint races, unlike our usual endurance races, but the rest of the season will be back to long-distance racing and we are looking forward to facing the competition from the likes of the Nissan GT-Rs.”

The 2013 Super Taikyu season will be a highly competitive one, seeing a full grid of 45 cars across six classes. The PETRONAS Syntium Team will face six other teams in the eight-car GT3 category. With the cancellation of the first round, the series will be revised to six rounds, starting with Korea before going back to Japan – Motegi in July, Fuji and Okayama in August, Suzuka in September and Autopolis in November.
