PETRONAS Syntium Team Wants a Perfect Finish

9 November

PETRONAS Syntium Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 won the overall Super Taikyu 2012 title at Round 5.
This marks the team’s fifth consecutive Super Taikyu title, since 2008.
#28 is overall second in the standings.

Although the PETRONAS Syntium Team has already secured the overall Super Taikyu 2012 title with their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1, the team is still hungry to complete the season with a perfect winning streak of six wins in six rounds. The champions are gunning for a 1-2 finish this weekend at the final round of the Super Taikyu Series 2012, which is held at Autopolis for the first time.

Starring the usual line-up of Nobuteru Taniguchi, Dominic Ang and Fariqe Hairuman for the SLS AMG GT3 #1, sister car #28 will be helmed by Masataka Yanagida, Jono Lester and Melvin Moh, while Tatsuya Kataoka and  Ryan Ritchie reserve as the back-up drivers. While the Japanese drivers are familiar with the track, the rest of the drivers are new to the circuit, with the exception of Fariqe who last drove at Autopolis some years back.

The ST-GT3 class will see more competition this weekend, with guest entry Team Mach GoGoGo’s Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 and the Threebond Nissan Technical College GT-R GT3 #24 pushing quick timings in all three one-hour sessions today.

Focused on developing rookies into champions, the PETRONAS Syntium Team is constantly putting its young drivers through the paces. Despite the steep learning curve of having to handle a powerful beast like the SLS AMG GT3, all rookies and young drivers have managed the cars and races well.

Dato’ David Wong, team principal of PETRONAS Syntium Team, said, "Developing young drivers, who are our champions of tomorrow, is a work-in-progress. The excitement is still in the atmosphere and we do wish to finish the championship on a high, making it six wins out of six rounds.”

The three-hour race will take place at 1.00 pm (local time UTC/GMT +9) on Sunday, 11 November 2012.
