Kuala Lumpur, 18 March 2013 – Leading up to the 2013 Formula One PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix this weekend – the 15th edition of the race – the PETRONAS Motorsports Demo Run was held yesterday to bring motorsports closer to the fans. Taking place right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur along Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Ampang, the demo consisted of displays by the various two- and four-wheel racing teams in PETRONAS’ motorsports portfolio, including the PETRONAS Syntium Team.
The five-time Super Taikyu champions flew their winning Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 #1 in from Japan along with their international crew to give members of the public an appreciation of the highly-lauded racing machine. PETRONAS Syntium Team drivers Fariqe Hairuman, Dominic Ang and Melvin Moh of Malaysia each took turns at the wheel of the SLS AMG GT3 #1, showcasing pit stops and driver changes between their stints, akin to a race. Fariqe, Ang and Moh also gave joy rides to special guests and VIPs with selected Mercedes-Benz AMG models, including the sexy SLS AMG roadster.
Dato’ David Wong, team principal of PETRONAS Syntium Team, said, "We are really honoured to be part of this important demonstration event by PETRONAS. We are also grateful to be able to bring our SLS AMG GT3 #1 close to the public and let them share the same pride we have in our cars. Focused on achieving great results, this year will be no different as we aim for our sixth consecutive Super Taikyu championship title.”
Heading back to Japan for the 2013 Super Taikyu Series testing session in two weeks, the SLS AMG GT3 #1 will be racing the entire season alongside its sister car #28. The first round of the series will be held on 20 – 21 April at Sportsland Sugo.
